ROMANCING THE MUSEUM

By Meghan Edwards

Two years ago, Ico Migliore and Mara Servetto of Migliore + Servetto Architetti Associati won over 31 other architecture and design firms in a competition to transform

Warsaw’s16th-century Ostrogski manor into a contemporary haven for the world’s largest collection of objects relating to virtuoso pianist and Romantic composer Frédéric Chopin. Sponsored by Poland’s Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bogdan Zdrojewski, the Chopin Muzeum opens next month in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth. On permanent view will be over 5,000 items including musical manuscripts, printed scores, letters, diaries, biographies and critical commentaries presented in an interactive multimedia format and spread across 70 interactive stations speaking 8 languages. The common denominator? Music, of course.
