A cool exhibition, “Envelope,” – a word play on “enveloping” at the Pratt Manhattan Gallery on view through May 5 explores parallels between the architecture of the outer surface of a building and the outer layer of the human skin both of which protect against the environment. Eight internationally renowned architects/designers working in different disciplines designed a site for architectural innovation and sustainability by examining the relationship between systems – human, animal, plant, and energy and how they flow together. Accompanying each site are full-scale, interactive models, architectural drawings, computer animation, and documentation of process. Eco-friendly, humane, hopeful, it’s a look at a brave new world. http://pratt.edu/exhibitions
